一、究竟用哪种算法计算GPA算出来的成绩会比较高，容易申请到更靠前的学校?北大算法?WES算法?标准4.0算法?还是改进标准算法?
其实，不论你目前的学校怎样计算GPA，以及你自己核算出来的GPA 是多少，你的成绩单最终递交给美国大学后，每所大学都会自己进行核算，计算出来的结果也很有可能和咱们自己算的或者国内的学校算的是有些不同的，所以像有些同学纠结到底用哪种算法算出来的GPA比较高这件事其实是没有实际意义的，咱们自己算的GPA仅仅是用于选校定位的时候做参考。
二、由于之前没有去美国留学的想法，所以GPA比较低，TOEFL和GRE考得高些是不是就可弥补GPA的缺憾来冲击名校?
GPA在申请美国大学的过程中起到至关重要的作用，一般GPA如果比较高，TOEFL和GRE或者GMAT相对低一些，都会比GPA低但是T和G高容易申请到更靠前的学校，比较扎心但确不得不承认的事实是：GPA是王道，重要性是无法撼动的，但是如果你的GPA比较低，起码TOEFL和GRE 或者GMAT要考高一些，这样起码你能PK掉其他各种成绩都不高的竞争对手。
三、TOEFL需要学多久?GRE需要学多久?
这个问题其实和你高考，通过学校内的各科考试，以及复习多久可以通过英语四六级考试是一个概念，每个人的基础不通，对知识的掌握能力大小不一，应试的能力和临场发挥的表现也不一样，所以每个人所需要的时间都不一样，一般建议这两个考试分开进行准备，毕竟考试内容不同，最好不要有重合，以从开始有计划的学习到考出满意成绩的时间来计算，
一般来讲，TOEFL最好有半年的时间，GRE最好有半年以上一年内的时间准备。
四、如果现在大二，想转学去美国，转过去应该读大几呢?
美国大学本科也是四年，但是不是严格意义上的必须只能4年毕业，而是一般都是120个学分，修满学分就可以毕业，所以如果学有余力，有的学生是可以在三年半或者三年就毕业的，也有的学生可能需要五年毕业。
所以严格意义上的年级的划分，对国际转学生来讲究不太适用，比如你在国内刚好读完大二，但是你上过的课程里面可能含有很多只有在中国才开设的课程，或者一些课程的内容和教材和美国并不相同，那么经过评估这些课程的学分是没有办法转到美国大学的，所以一般转学都会浪费掉一些学分，只是每个学校的转学分政策不一样，能接受的学分多少不同罢了，但是转学的好处是，同等分数条件和背景情况下，美国本科比国内本科更容易申请到好一点的学校。
五、申请美国大学的时候，实习经历是不是必须的?我没有实习证明怎么办?
一般文商科专业是需要实习经历的，理工科是需要科研项目经历的，其实并不是说这个经历是不是必须，而是你除了学业成绩，TOEFL，GRE，GMAT这些分数以外，还有什么可以向学校证明你在专业方面的能力和素质，那自然就要用到这些途径。
美国大学是不需要盖章的证明性文件的，他们更注重你在申请文书里面描绘的细节，比如运用了那些专业知识，解决了哪些问题等等，更主要看你体现出来的实实在在的能力，而不是一纸证明。

美国数学博士申请总结– Uchicago Math PhD 申请结果： Chicago Math PhD (with scholarship) UW-Madison Math PhD UC Davis Math PhD UW Math PhD (with scholarship) 自我介绍 先介绍一下我的基本情况。我本科是清华数学系，申请的学校都是数学博士，方向是离散概率。先介绍一下基本情况，本人GPA年级前十，托福115，GRE V168+Q170+AW3.5，GREsub Math 910，暑假在西雅图微软研究院跟P教授和L 教授做了一个月理论概率的科研，给教授们留下了不错的印象。我最终取得UChicago和UW的数学博士offer。我基于自己的体验和见闻讲一下我对于申请的认识。 申请准备 数学博士项目的申请基本要求和其他方向博士申请非常相似，要求有toefl, gre, gresub, gpa, 三封推荐信。但这些都是基本要求，通常不是决定性的。toefl 考得好能避免博士项目时选修针对TA的英语课程（不同学校有不同分数要求）；gre能够提高英语词汇量和复杂英语的使用能力，对于未来有志于需要较多语言
描述的数学分支比较有帮助（比如应用数学）；gresub都是微积分，对于普遍分数较高的中国学生没什么用；gpa非数学课程没什么用。 基本层面最重要的在于通过你的各种经历展现你拥有从事前沿数学研究的能力，途径包括但不仅限于：学习高年级本科生课或研究生课程并取得高分（通常是目标方向的入门课程），参加老师的seminar读书读论文并取得推荐信，跟中国导师科研或出国暑研并取得推荐信，通过丘赛证明自己实力并取得Yau的推荐信，参与学生学术杂志编辑工作等。其中前两项是比较可行的选择，杂志编辑只要有这份心和能力也能够做好，当然收益也较小。但是数学某些子方向的本科生科研的障碍比较大可以不考虑，丘赛除非实力逆天则准备周期较长风险较大。另外所在本科学校相关方向的风评也是一个基本面的重要因素，放在最后也是因为这是无能为力的因素，仅剩的选择只有转校或者换方向。当然性别因素也是不可忽略的。 以上都是基本面上的准备，除非两位竞争者有极大的差距，i.e.经历中展现的未来科研能力有极大的差距，那他们比拼的就是“关系”。这里的关系并不是通俗意义上的关系。取得关系的方式包括但不仅限于：直接跟心仪教授暑研，和心仪教授陶瓷，通过其他导师间接认识心仪教授，参与和心仪导师关系密切合作的教授组织的暑研和讨论班获得推荐信，在讨论班和暑研中选择和心仪导师相同的方向，和心仪导师有着相同国籍等。需要强调的一点，针对某个心仪导师，只有与这个导师有着密切关系的教授的推荐信是所谓的关系，并不是越知名越牛的教授越合适。我们总是说推荐人地位越高越好，但这并不总是成立的。 申请过程 申请过程并不是高考用成绩论高低的竞争，更应该理解为项目和学生的适配过程，供给需求共同决定。因此决定录取结果的，除了上述的基本面和所谓关系，还充斥着随机因素。申请是否成功取决于同校竞争者的实力，取决于全世界同方向竞争者的实力，取决于项目前几年的招生enroll情况，取决于教授的个人计划，取决于系内新晋升tenure的教授数量，取决于系内科研方向发展的偏好，取决于学校的整体发展兴衰等等。 总的来说，数学博士套路上是和其他学科的博士申请类似的，但是纯数因为其独特性有着更大的障碍。纯数分支大多有门槛较高，进入前沿慢的特点。这就带来

Dear xxx: I would like to inform you of the situation relevant to Chinese graduate students here, at least at our department, which makes it very difficult for us to accept graduate students from China in the future. Over about one year period, we have had 6 Chinese Ph.D. students quit their RAship and Ph.D. studies. The reason for them to leave was not that they could not continue, it was rather because they want to have a job now (a higher salary, with a hope that the companies will apply for their green card status). They came with thier promises to pursue their Ph.D. degrees, we paid tuition for them to take courses for their Master degree, and we taught and helped them in their research capabilities. Once they got their M.S. degree in Mechanical Engeering, because of the excellent job market in the U.S. at this time, it is relatively easy for them to find a job. In a way we felt that we were used as a step for those Chinese students to come here, and get their master's degree, then get their jobs. We pay approximately $45-50 K/year for each Ph.D. student, including the tuition, health insurance, various fees, lab and computer fees, and monthly salary, we also put a lot of time and efforts for them. They (most of them) also did good research work as assistants. However, we don't get credit because we don't produce PH.D's, which is one of our major purposes as an institution of high education. On the other hand, they have their particular interests which are also understandable, for example, financial pressure, and wishes to have their green card applications on the way a sap.
