1.Why Do I Learn English

1）Why do I learn English?

First of all, English has become an international language. It plays a more and more important part in the world, especially in business and association. Speaking English well can reduce the trouble and save money in the communication with foreigners in doing business.

Secondly, English opens another window for us to get more knowledge and useful information. We can enjoy some famous works and learn what the different customs in the foreign countries with the help of English.

All in all, with the growth of the communication with the other countries, no matter whatever you do or wherever you go, we cannot live without English.

2) Why Do I Learn English?

Firstly, spoken by nearly 3000,000 of people, English is the most-widely used language in the World. It is also one of the working languages at international meetings. So in order to communicate with other people effectively and learn the advanced science and technology from other people, we need to learn English and master it.

In addition, it is said that about 60 percent of the world's radio broadcasts and 70 percent of the world's mail are in English. Millions of books and magazines are written in English, too. English is really a bridge to knowledge and culture. With the help of English we can learn modern science and technology faster and better from the developed countries. In this way we can serve our country better.

2.The Book I Like Most

1)

As a Chinese proverb goes, "It's always beneficial to read a book.” Among all the books I have read, the book I like most is the Bible, whose rich contents have really shaped my life. It covers a wide range of subject matters including law, history, prophecy, gospels, history of churches and visions of the future, and all are couched in a simple yet beautiful language.

I have been a reader of the Bible for a number of years since a friend of mine introduced it to me by chance. Since then, it gives me moral strength and teaches me what to do in my daily life and plays an important role in my life. The Bible is not simply great literature to be admired and revered; it is food for thought for everyone.

The book I like most is The Old Man and the Sea written by Heminway. It tells a story about a fisherman named Santiago who finally proved himself a hero by his courage, perseverance and confidence.

At the close of the story I was deeply struck by the iron will of the protagonist. "A man is not made for defeat," said the old man. "A man can be destroyed but not defeated." Such words are a fillip to me when I look back on the failures in my college life. The book brings home to me the truth of the saying "Failure is the mother

of success," which I have never taken seriously before. I also know that the will to struggle is what counts, not the result thereof. With the understanding that no man is perfect, I regain the confidence and study harder. I believe I can do better and better.

My favorite book is The Journey to the West. First, I like the Monkey King very much. He is a clever and brave monkey and can do almost everything. He can fly vey high in the sky and dive under the water as well. What impressed me most is that he can change his look. He is also good at Kongfu, with which he fights against those terrible monsters. Another reason I like this book is because it teaches me not to give up. There are troubles in our life, but if you are brave enough you’ll over come it.

That is my favorite book. It gives me a lot of fun and tells me what to do when I have trouble.

3 My Favorite City

1)

I have been to many cities in my life. Among them Hangzhou is my favorite city.

An old Chinese saying goes, “There is heaven above, and Suzhou and Hangzhou below.” The weather here is very favorable because it is neither too hot in summer nor too cold in winter.

The West Lake is surely the most remarkable feather of Hangzhou. It is noted for its scenic beauty, naturally combined with many famous historical and cultural sites. At night, teahouses and various pubs are popular. Choosing one overlooking the West Lake for a pleasant chat over a cup of tea is sure to make you feel relaxed and refreshed.

So if you have a chance to travel, go to Hangzhou and you will surely enjoy yourself.

As one of the largest cities in China, Shanghai is my favorite city for its modern and traditional Chinese features.

There are three key areas in Shanghai which most interest tourists. These include sightseeing, business and shopping. A lot of cultural relics are well kept in museums and memorial halls. The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is the tallest TV tower in Asia. Shanghai is also a shoppers’paradise. Within a distance of five kilometers, the Nanjing Road is the most famous business street in Shanghai. Huaihai Road attracts those with modern and fashionable tastes. The food in Shanghai is also tasteful and its restaurants are among the finest to be found in China.

So if you have a chance to travel, go to Shanghai and you will surely enjoy yourself.

My favorite city is Paris. Although I have never been there, I have been attracted by its beauty and charm for its long history as a center of learning and knowledge. People from other countries come to the city to view its impressive monuments and museums, tastes its cuisine, and relax themselves in its sidewalk cafes and nightclubs.

Another reason I like Paris is because of its weather. Paris enjoys a mild climate, with an average temperature of 19 degree C in July and 3 degree C in January. The total amount of rain is well distributed throughout the year, often in the form of soft drizzles.

I have read many books about Paris. Hope someday I will be in the streets of Paris.

Hong Kong is my favorite city, which I visited with my parents last year.

Lying to the east of Macao and facing the South China Sea, Hong Kong covers an area of 1,075 square kilometers. There are three main parts: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula and the New Territories. Nowadays, Hong Kong has become the famous center of international trade, finance, shipping, travel and information. It attracts several million travelers all over the world every year. That’s also one of the reasons we’re attracted to visit Hong Kong. So if you have a chance to travel, go to Hong Kong and you will surely enjoy yourself.

4. My Best Friend

1) My best friend Li Lei and I get along with each other quite well. But we are so different. He is funnier, more outgoing than I am and I’m more serious. He is more athletic and likes to play all kinds of sports but I am smarter on study. My friend is wilder than me and I am calmer. He is tall, thin, strong, with short hair, and sometimes he is very careless and lazy. But I am short, fat, weak, with shorthair. He is very helpful because I am very lazy and don't want to do any sports. But I can help him with his study. I think our friendship will last forever

2)My best friend is my classmate Wang Jian. We have been good friends since we entered the same class. Wang Jian is a very humorous boy and also very kind hearted.

He studies very hard and always gets the top score in my class. When we have difficulties in learning English or maths, he is always happy to help us. Because Wang Jian is very handsome and tall, he likes playing basketball very much. He is the best basketball player on our school team.

I like him so much and hope our friendship will last for ever.

3) My best friend is Yang Jie. I like her mainly because she is kind-hearted.

Yang Jie is a volunteer in a nursing home. Every weekend, she will go to the nursing home to do something for the elderly. She knows what they need and learned how to meet their needs. She would read a letter for one, thread a needle for another, or pour a glass of water for one of them. Sometimes, she just sits there to listen to them. She brings a lot of happiness to the old people there. But she never needs any reward. She told me that “if everyone helps out a bit, the world will become a better place.” I am very proud of her and honored to have such a kind-hearted girl as my friend.

5 A Chinese Festival

1) The Chinese Lantern Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month. It is on this day that families always get a reunion to eat dumpling called Yuanxiao or Tangyuan, to see a full moon or to watch the display of the colorful lanterns hanging on either side of streets or in a park.

In the daytime of the Festival, performances include Dragon Lantern Dances, Lion Dances, Land Boat Dances are made. Once the night falls, children will hold various lanterns running around and families maybe get a reunion in the moonlight or go to see lanterns on show in the town or cities nearby.

2)The Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb Sweeping Day or Ching Ming, is a traditional Chinese festival on the first day of the fifth solar term of the traditional Chinese lunisolar calendar. This makes it the 15th day after the Spring Equinox, either April 4th or 5th in a given year.

The festival is called Qīngmíng Jiéin Standard (Mandarin) Chinese, literally "Pure Brightness Festival" or "Clear and Bright Festival". The name suggests a time for people to go outside and enjoy the greenery of springtime, but it is mostly noted for it connection with Chinese ancestral veneration and the tending of family graves.

On the mainland, the holiday is associated with the consumption of qingtuan, green dumplings made of glutinous rice and barley grass. On Taiwan, the similar confection is known as caozaiguo or shuchuguo.

The 5th day of the 5th month of the lunar year is an important day for the Chinese people. The day is called Duan Wu Festival, or Dragon Boat Festival, celebrated everywhere in China.

This festival dates back to about 2,000 years ago with a number of legends explaining its origin. The best-known story centers on a great patriotic poet named Qu Yuan. The customs vary a lot in different areas of the country, but most of the families would hang the picture of Zhong Kui (a ghost that can exorcise), calamus and moxa in their houses. People have Dragon Boat Races, eat Zong Zi (dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves) and carry a spice bag around with them.

I like the festival very much, because on this day in my hometown we would have dragon boast races, which is really exciting and interesting.

Today we can’t live without the computer. With the development of technology, the computer is widely used in all the fields of the society. I like it because it is beneficial for people.

On the one hand, it helps people with a lot of office work, including complex computation, searching information and some work that is dangerous for human beings to do. On the other hand, people can use them to communicate with each other. They can also use the computer to chat after a day’s work. Besides, with the computer we can also watch movies and play computer games, which will make us feel relaxed.

In a word, computers have become an indispensable part in our life. That’s why I like computers.

With the development of science and technology, computers have been widely used in our life and work. I like computer because of the following reasons: Firstly, computers can improve our work efficiency. For example, engineers can use computers drawing the pictures. This saves time and makes the picture accurate. Secondly, we can also use the computer to search some information

online. It’s really convenient. What’s more, we can communicate easily with people with the computer by chatting or sending emails.

Computers make life easier and convenient, that’s why I like computers so much.

I like computer, because the computer is one of the most important invention in man’s history. The appearance of computers has speeded up the overall development of human society and has greatly changed people’s life in general.

Nowadays, computers are commonly used in every part of the society. Almost no government, company, or organization can function normally and efficiently without the help of computers. As for people’s daily life, computers are also helpful. It can save people a lot of time. We can also buy anything on the net if we are tired after a day’s hard work.

All in all, computers have become an indispensable part in our life. That’s why I like computers.

4) Why I Don’t Like Computer

Although computers are playing an important role in our daily life, and have speeded up the development of human society, I don’t like computer. Computers have the “dark” side. For example, many children love computer games so much that they often stay up late and even neglect their studies. Also, computers’ radiation is harmful to people’s health especially to our eyes. In addition, when doing the office work, if we forget to save the file, once the computers are out of charge, everything we have done will be in vain. Therefore, while being familiar with the help of computers, we should also be careful in using them.

Science is an amazing thing. It changed the way we live and the world we are in. I’ll take the example of the internet to explain how wonderful science is. With the development of science and technology, computers have been widely used in our life and work. And with computer, we can log on to the internet through them. On the net, we can get all kinds of information; We can communicate with others, no matter they are next door or overseas. We can even buy things on the net without getting out of the house. In fact, cyber-shopping is now becoming more and more popular.

All the above I mentioned above shall be owed to the development of science. So science is really an amazing thing, which makes our life so wonderful.

Every coin has two sides. Science is of no exception. Science can be beneficial for people but may also bring harm to them. The invention of television is a good example illustrating this.

Since the invention of TV, the vivid colors and various interesting shows have provided people with a lot of joy and fun in the free time. Yet watching too many TV

programs may be harmful to people, especially to children. Scientists have found that children who watch too much TV may have more trouble learning to read than other kids. There is also a lot of fighting and violence on TV. It’s a big problem for children because they don’t have enough experience to tell right and wrong.

So it’s true that along with benefits, science can also bring problems. However, it is due to our human beings on how to make use of science.

10. My Family

1) Everyone has a family. We live in it and feel very warm. There are three persons in my family, my mother, father and I. We live together very happily and there are many interesting stories about my family.

My father is a hard-working man. He works as a doctor. He always tries his best to help every, patient and make patients comfortable. But sometimes he works so hard that he can't remember the date.

My mother is a woman with a bad memory. She always does a lot of housework, but sometimes she makes mistakes out of carelessness. For example, one day, she washed clothes in the washer, after the washer finished the work; she found she hadn't filled the washer with water.

My parents all support my study. They hope I will become a person ready to help others.

2).There are four people in my family. They are my father, my mother, my sister and I.

My father is tall and thin. He is a handsome man. He has big eyes. His hair is straight. He likes watching TV and movies and read books. My mother works in an office. She cooks very well. She likes to read books, too. She is short and thin. My sister is a student. She is an independent girl. She is very graceful. I am a college student. I like to play dodge ball and listen to music very much. I like my family because each family member helps me a lot.

1) Among the four seasons in the year, my favorite season is autumn. In autumn, the weather is very comfortable. It feels so great after the hot summer. Therefore, I like going outside for hiking in autumn. I can enjoy the beautiful scenery of nature. Besides, autumn is a season of harvest. Farmers are busy with their farm work. After such long time of hardworking, it's time for them to enjoy their fruits of labor. After the harvest, they are going to prepare for the new year. Therefore, harvest means a lot to the farmers, because it is able to bring a good new year to farmers.
