The Introduction Of Southeast University

Southeast University (SEU), as one of the oldest higher-learning institu

tes in China, was founded in 1902. It is a national key institute of higher

learning administered directly under the Ministry of Education of China (MOE ).

It is one of the top 20 universities among 2,000 Chinese higher-learning institutes, and it is a university in the Project of 211 and 985.

It is located in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province, a most developed province in China. It has campuses of Sipailou ,Jiulonghu and Dingjiaqiao, c overing a total area of 427 hectares.

SEU has begun to enroll overseas students since 1956. Students from over 60 countries and regions have to date completed their studies at SEU. SEU h as established close cooperation and exchanges with over 30 foreign countrie

s and more than 100 universities and institutes.

e faculty involved are very knowledgeable and with the rich experience in te aching and academic research home and abroad.

If the international students join our Chinese-taught programs, they wil

l study all the courses together with our Chinese students. We will designat

e some excellent Chinese students to give them help in study, and the teache

rs will also offer them additional help if necessary.

If the international students join the English-taught programs, they wil l find the programs specially designed to catering to their background and n

eed. E.g. in the English-taught master's program of international business,

the international students are exposed to the developing China through visit

ing various enterprises in Jiangsu and neighboring region. These activities

are arranged in their tour-study week.

This year SEU has admitted 10 Ph. D students, 40 postgraduate students, 100 undergraduate students and 35 non-degree students. They came from

(60)Asia, (60)Africa, (30)Europe, (28)America and (2)Oceania. The

English-taught bachelor's program of clinical medicine, architecture, and the English-taughtmaster's program of international business will start by the end of this month, and other programs have begun. So if you start right now, you can apply

for the above mentioned programs. If the number of applicants for Chinese l

anguage and culture exceeds 10, we are ready to open a separate class for th

e new applicants.

We design our recruitment plan for 2010 based on this year's plan, with the expectation that we'll have an increasing-number of qualified applicants

for each program. But we are market-oriented, so if the international educa

tion market has any new demand, we are ready to design new programs.

In the past three years, we have more and more qualified applicants. Eac

h of the programs has its own characteristics. It's hard to say which is mor

three main campuses.

Sipailou campus and Dingjiaqiao campus are located in the different part

s of the downtown areas, where the transportation is very convenient and the

re are many entertainment facilities and restaurants outside the two campuse s. Jiulong Lake campus is located in the southern part of Nanjing, where the

re is beautiful natural scenery, many facilities for physical exercises and

the largest library of SEU. The school bus and the public transportation sys

tem make it easy for the students to commute between the Jiulong Lake campus and the downtown area within 40 minutes.

The monthly accommodation fee of a room is around 1000RMB, and other mon

thly expenses including food, transportation and entertainment is between 10

00RMB and 3000RMB.

But the symbolic image remains indeterminate in its possible meanings; it is usually a substantial image in its own right, around which further significances may gather according to differing interpretations. The metaphor under discussion here does not mean that as a rhetorical device or figure of speech, though the metaphorical sentences as wonderful as the one “Manhattan, the night-blooming cereus, was beginning to unfold its dead-white, heavy-odored petals” teem in O’Henry’s short stories. What is to be probed is the metaphor exploited as a skill in story-writing. In the third branch of Roads of Destiny, the hero David Mig not is a shepherd, but he is too indulged in writing poems to take enough care of his sheep. The flock steadily grows smaller and his wife keeps on complaining. Then one of his friends introduces him to a learned man called Georges Bril, David asks Monsieur Bril to read his poems, because he wants to know if he shall write more or give his attention to his sheep. When Monsieur Bril has read all the verses, he concludes that David has no talent for poem-writing. In order to tell the harsh truth in a mild way, he asks David to look at the crow in the tree. Instead of commenting on the poems directly, Monsleur Bril praises the crow that is content with his lot. In this metaphorical way he advises David tactfully not to try to write poems any more. David sees the point and feels discouraged. He goes back home and thrusts his poems into the stove. 陆卫兵教授科研工作情况简介简况: 男，生于1977年7月，2005年4月毕业于东南大学无线电工程系，获得电磁场与微波技术专业工学博士学位。分别于2006年、2008年破格晋升为副教授、教授。现为毫米波国家重点实验室教授、博导,教育部新世纪人才,东南大学科学与技术处副处长。2009年至2010年曾在教育部科技司军工处挂职锻炼，任职副处长。研究方向包括:复杂电磁问题的快速仿真方法研究及其在电磁兼容与电磁散射的工程应用研究;表面等离子体波及其在新型光电集成器件中的应用研究。2008年担任 International Workshop on Metamaterials组织委员会主席，现为IEEE Trans. on AP、IEEE Trans. on GRS以及IET Microwaves, Antennas & Propagation等国际一流期刊的审稿人，中国兵工学会电磁兼容专业委员会委员。主持承担科研项目（代表）: 1，“大规模有限周期结构电磁特性的快速计算方法研究”，国家青年自然基金，总经费20万元，已结题； 2，“基于SED 的新型人工电磁隐身材料全波仿真方法研究”，江苏省自然科学基金，总经费8万元，已结题； 3，“XXX”，航空科学研究基金，总经费10万元，已结题； 4，“XXX”，总装预研基金，总经费15万元，在研； 5，“真实结构新型人工电磁材料的全波仿真方法研究”，教育部科学技术重点项目，总经费10万元，在研； 6，教育部新世纪人才计划 NCET-08-0107，总经费50万元，在研；7，“复杂平台电磁兼容 SBR仿真方法研究”，国家自然科学基金，

摘要艾米莉·勃朗特是英国维多利亚时期一名杰出的作家。她短暂的一生只留下一部杰作－－《呼啸山庄》。这部小说因其永久的魅力和广泛的畅销被列为世界名著。然而，这部小说的价值直到二十世纪才被人们重新发现。随着时间的推移，她的小说越来越受到关注。一百多年来，学术界对其小说《呼啸山庄》分别从主题、主旨、写作技巧、语言风格、女性主义、生态批评等不同角度进行过研究。本文从象征主义的角度来解读自然和文明的关系，二者之间相互斗争，但最终因为文明的侵犯和本性的扼杀造成了西斯克里夫和凯瑟琳的爱情悲剧，同时折射出造成人类悲剧命运的根源和重回自然的思想。勃朗特在《呼啸山庄》中构建起分别象征着自然的呼啸山庄和文明的画眉山庄，把维多利亚时代的矛盾压缩进两个家庭的故事中。本文以凯瑟琳的命运为中心线索，分别论证了呼啸山庄和画眉山庄的象征意义。凯瑟琳是文明和自然的交织点，通过论述凯瑟琳的异化，迷失和归复来说明文明压抑了人性，要求人顺应人性回归自然的思想。关键词：自然；文明；凯瑟琳；西斯克里夫；象征主义

Abstract Emily Bront? is a brilliant writer in Victorian Age. In her short life, she writes only one novel, Wuthering Heights, which has become a worldwide classic for its enduring interest and wide popularity. However, the novel is ignored by the readers and critics of the Victorian Age. It is not until the 20th century that the true value of the novel is discovered. As time passes by, her novel has gained more and more attention. Throughout the hundred years the scholars have attained remarkable achievements from diffident points of view, such as themes, narrative skills, writing style, language, feminism and ecocriticism. This paper tries to apply symbolism to analyze the relation between nature and civilization, which are fighting with each other. But the violation of civilization and the death of nature are responsible for the tragedy of Heathcliff and Catherine. The novel mirrors the root of tragedy of human and akes people to return to nature. In this novel Bront? builds Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange, which are the tokens of nature and civilization respectively. She condenses the contradiction of the Victorian Age into the story of the two families. The paper is built around the fate of Catherine. It studies the symbolic meanings of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. Catherine is the conjunction of nature and civilization and the conflict of them is vividly shown in her. The alienation, loss and return of Catherine indicates that civilization represses the nature of human and man should return and comply to nature.
