As the weather gets warmer, there are few things that are better to do than travel. But travelling might not that fun for everyone, especially for those who have motion sickness(晕动症).

Motion sickness is also called travel sickness. It is a common experience for many people. Depending on how you travel, it can be called carsickness or seasickness. People with motion sickness feel very uncomfortable while they are in motion. They feel sick and dizzy, like the room around them won’t stop spinning.

It is generally believed that motion sickness happens when your senses become confused with each other, scientific American reported.

We use different parts of our body to sense movement. Our eyes tell us if we are moving. The inner ears include a special liquid(液体)that helps us sense our direction and balance. Our muscles(肌肉)react to movement. When you move around, these body parts work well together. But when you are in a car or an airplane, they get confused. Your inner car signals that you are moving. This mismatch gives us motion sickness.

But some people are less sensitive(敏感)to motion sickness. This may be because they have certain genes that prevent mismatching senses, a genetic expert from the US told the Atlantic.

Although there are many ways to deal with motion sickness, scientists believe that the

key is to simply try to get used to it.

For example, some astronauts do special exercise that give them slight motion sickness. After a week or two, the astronauts become used to it and don’t feel uncomfortable any more.

34.What do we know about motion sickness?

A. It is called carsickness when you travel by car.

B. It happens to only a small

number of people.

C. It can make travelling more fun.

D. It causes the room to spin continuously.

35. How do people feel if they have motion sickness?

A.Worried and angry.

B. Sick and dizzy.

C. Thirsty.

D. Sleepy.

36. Why do some people have motion sickness?

A. Because their senses stop working.

B. Because they lose their sense of direction.

C. Because their eyes can’t see properly.

D. Because there is a mismatch among their senses.

37. The astronauts are mentioned to show that _______.

A. it is important for others to deal with motion sickness

B. astronauts can easily get used to motion sickness

C. special exercises can help deal with motion sickness

D. motion sickness has something to do with genes

For years, I had been in depression (沮丧). The first event I can remember happened when I was 14. As I walked to my home in Singapore after school one day, I suddenly couldn't help sitting against a wall and crying. I hardly tried to reach my house before bursting into tears (大哭). These strong and sad feelings scar ed me.

By the time I was 16, these things were happening about once a month. Most of the time I lived my life normally, but then my mind seemed to take a life of its own. They happened for no reason, but now everything became a reason — a frown (皱眉)from a teacher, first prize for a competition, a long line at a supermarket. It didn't matter whether the events were happy, sad or different, all would be made by my mind into something terrible.

I didn't like this feeling, so I decided to help myself. I took some medicine. I also joined a group and started reading self-help books. More importantly, I made a decision to get out of this situation. I made myself go out and make new friends. Today, two years later, I' m much better. I'm taking a pre-university course and have a lot of friends.

I have also become more positive (积极的). I am enjoying my life and my work as an English and Science teacher at an education centre. It has not been easy to open up or share my feelings, but it's getting easier all the time. And the best part is, I did lose myself, but I succeeded in finding myself again.

Imagine you walk into a store. Strangely enough, you see no staff

(店员) inside. You pick up things and prepare to wait in line and pay.

But even more oddly, there is no cashier at all. So what has happened to

this store?

Well, you may have en tered Tao Café, a cashless store created by Chinese e-commerce

giant Alibaba. In July, the public got to see the store for the first time at Alibaba’s Taobao Maker Festival in

Hangzhou.

The 200-square-meter store sells drinks, fast food and snacks. It can hold up to 50 shoppers at a time. To enter and shop, people only need a smartphone with a Taobao app and an Alipay account (账户).

By scanning their Taobao QR code (二维码), shoppers are followed with cameras for facial recognition. The store has also digitalized (数字化) all goods and their placement on the shelves. So when shoppers pick up goods, the system will be able to “watch” and “remember” their selection.

When shoppers are ready to leave, they don’t wait in line to pay. Instead, they go through two checkout doors. Then the bills will be paid with a Taobao account connected to Alipay.

According to Alibaba, the checkout machines can recognize goods even when shoppers put them in pockets or bags. So it is almost impossible to steal things from the store.

Tao Café is not the only cashless store in China. A 24-hour convenience store with no staff called BingoBox opened in Shanghai in June. To enter the store, shoppers scan a QR code on WeChat or Alipay. But unlike the Tao Café, they have to scan another QR code to leave the BingoBox.

When we are talking to someone, we like to change someone else’s mind to our way of thinking. And we may often find it difficult to do that. So here are five tips on how to

change someone

’s mind.

The first one is never to turn the conversation into an argument. Instead, you should show your opinions and the facts that you have collected. By showing them the facts, we want to tell other people that we are right. But emotionally, they may not totally agree with what you say.

The second tip is never to say that you are wrong. If someone says what you think is wrong, it’s better to point it out by saying, “I thought otherwise but I might be wrong, let’s look at the facts”. The key is to say that you might be wrong, not that you are wrong. So you are showing them that you are open to new ideas and this is very important in changing someone else to your way of thinking.

Tip number three is to get the other person to say yes as fast as possible. You may begin your conversation on hobbies that you guys have, something that they are crazy about, something that gets them to say yes. A conversation like this will get them to like you and build up trust between the two of you.

Tip number four is to let the other person do a great number of talking. By listening to them, you are going to create a friendly relationship and build trust. So when you express your opinions, they will also show a willingness to listen. Never interrupt them when they are talking.

The last tip is to let the other person feel that your idea was theirs. It’s wiser to makes suggest ions and let someone else come to the conclusion, then they have a sense of pride that it’s their idea.
