Part I Writing

With the development of the society, people now are more likely to assert their own rights. If their interests are harmed, they will get angry and violent. Is it wise to do this? No doubt, it is not. Admittedly, everyone has his right to defend his own interests. However, it is not wise to show your anger when someone does something wrong to you.

There are numerous examples to illustrate this point. For instance, dormmates in college are supposed to share the responsibility of cleaning the dormitory. You shouldn’t get angry at your dormmate who occasionally doesn’t do his part in cleaning the dorm. Once or twice, you have to do the cleaning in his place. You may feel angry inside, but it’s wise not to pour your anger to him. It’s more sensible for you to talk it out with him and know reasons why he failed to do his duty. Maybe the reasons are understandable. Then you two can negotiate the best schedule to clean the dorm.

All in all, it’s not wise to get mad at someone even if he seemingly harms you in some sense. It’s more desirable for you to know the reasons behind his behavior, and thus maintain a healthy friendship with him.

Part II Listening Comprehension 听力原文

Section A

1. W: Some employers are protesting against being sacked by their employer.

M: Yeah, the news is all over the Internet. But I think they deserve it for their inefficiency at work. Q: What does the man mean?

2. W: Sue will turn 19 this Friday. It seems that she hasn’t found herself in handling her life in college. M: You said it. She tends to act in an irresponsible way, playing online games nonstop, absent in class meetings, and failing to hand in homework on time.

Q: What does the man say about Sue?

3. M: Hi, I’m Louis. I come to give back Susan’s school bag. I found it in the library. I take the liberty to find her address in her notebook in her bag.

W: That’s very kind of you, Louis. Susan is out, and I’ll give it to her. Thanks again.

Q: What do we learn about Susan from the conversation?

4. M: Too many ways of learning oral English are proposed by educators. I’m at a loss about which is the best method to perfect my spoken English.

W: Forget those theoretical arguments. Just open your mouth and practice as much as possible. You will benefit from this.

Q: What do we learn from the conversation?

5. M: How many more words should I write for the term paper. The word count says it’s almost 4,000 words.

W: The rules for term paper say that 3,500 words will be up to the standards. You’ve written 500 words more than required.

Q: What does the woman mean?

6. W: Amanda has gone back home now. So I have to stay alone in our dorm tonight.

M: I heard her mother was sick, so she went to take care of her. Is it right? She’s a great daughter. Q: What is Amanda going to do back home?

7. W: It’s amazing. You’ve done the PowerPoint document for class presentation for our group all by yourself. You shouldn’t have tried so hard. After all, every member of our group wants to do his part. M: Let’s go over it together to see whether any improvement is needed. Later, I’ll seek advice from other group members.

Q: What does the man mean?

8. W: I don’t know whose class I will attend for this term’s Advanced Physics. There’s a long list of teachers teaching this course in the online registration system.

M: When you’re uncertain, just follow others and choose the teacher others have chosen.

Q: What does the man mean?

Conversation One

W: I always commute to work by subway. It’s fast and convenient. But, some passengers sometimes are really annoying.

M: Same here! There’re general rules for people to behave properly while taking subway. But, there’re some unspoken rules for taking the subway. Seems people don’t usually heed those rules.

W: Yes, passengers are good when it comes to follow the written and published rules. But, they may violate those unspoken rules, perhaps because they are not so obvious and are very easy to be ignored.

M: Say, passengers are not supposed to make noise during the morning rush hour. At that time, we’re tired and are trying hard to get prepared for work psychologically. What we need now is a moment’s peace in the subway. But, …….

W: But, some people may try every means to break the peace by listening to loud music on their phone or mp3 player, or shouting on their phone to reschedule their appointments at work.

M: Yes, they’re making a show of their rudeness. The result is that everyone around will hate them and plot their death secretly.

W: They deserve it. By the way, it’s not proper to hug a pole in the subway on usual occasions. You can imagine, that’ll be a funny picture if one’s doing it in a public place.

M: Definitely he will appear to be ridiculous. But, it’s advisable for a sensible man to stand properly, with only one hand on the pole. Of course, it’s better when he chooses to wear a pair of gloves.

W: Yes, we don’t know who else has held the pole before. It’s necessary for one to carry hand sanitizer with him or her when taking the public transportation.

M: That’s a good tip. Another tip may be that you should be kind to the pregnant, elderly, or disabled riders.

W: It’s very sweet of you to mention this. They get up so early in the morning to take so crowded a subway. They must have had something urgent to handle. We should take the initiative to give up our

seats to them.

Questions 9 to 11 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

9. How will passengers react to published rules when taking the subway?

10. If someone makes noise in the morning rush hour, how will other passengers respond?

11. What’s the speaker s’ suggestion for taking the public transportation?

Conversation Two

W: I travelled through Europe this summer holiday by train. It was a wonderful experience. If you plan to travel there someday, I suggest you go there by train, rather than by airplane.

M: By train! Travelling around Europe by train must be time consuming. But you said it was wonderful.

W: In fact, it saves time and money. You know, almost all airports are located out of the main city, it’s all about money and time you will spend to get to the heart of the city from the airport. However, railway stations in Europe are usually located right in the heart of the city or near it.

M: Oh, I see. It is time saving. What other benefits of taking the train?

W: There’re many benefits. For example, train travelling is more comfortable than travelling by plane. You will get a good leg space. Also, you can get sleeping compartment for a little more addition in the ticket.

M: That sounds good. Sitting in a small chair on a plane for hours is a kind of torture.

W: Besides, train travelling may bring you to beautiful scenic vista during the trip. It’s the best way of enjoying the beautiful European countryside that you will come across between two destinations.

M: Yes, how wonderful it is to see those delicate and quiet places if you’re tired of dwelling in big cities.

W: If you have had bought rail pass, you can hop on and hop off the train whenever you decide to visit those places on your way.

M: That’ll be great! Besides, it seems, if you travel by train, there’s no need for you to get to the railway station several hours earlier for check-ins and security control, like what you have to do when taking a plane.

Questions 12 to 15 are based on the conversation you have just heard.

12. Where are railway stations usually located in Europe?

13. Why is it very comfortable to travel by train?

14. What’s the use of rail pass?

15. What’s said about security control in train stations?

Section B

Passage One

Positive teacher-student relationships, featured by low conflict, a high degree of closeness and

support, and little dependency, have been shown to support stude nts’ adjustment to school, contribute to their social skills, and promote academic performance. Teachers who experience close relationships with students reported that their students were less likely to avoid school, appeared more cooperative, and more engaged in learning.

Students reported liking school more and experiencing less loneliness if they had a close relationship with their teachers. Students with better teacher-student relationships also showed better performance on measures of academic performance and school readiness. Teachers who use more learner-centered practices produced greater motivation in their students than those who used fewer of such practices. The learner-centered practices adopted include such practices that show sensitivity to individual differences among students, include students in the decision-making, and acknowledge students’ developmental, personal and relational needs.

The quality of early teacher-student relationships has a long-lasting impact on students. Specifically, students who had more conflict with their teachers or showed more dependency toward their teachers in kindergarten also had lower academic achievement, as reflected in mathematics and language arts grades. And such students tend to have more behavioral problems, e.g., poorer work habits, more discipline problems.

These findings were evident that students’ behavior problems are somehow related to problematic teacher-child relationships. These findings were greater for boys than for girls. Further work finds that children with more closeness and less conflict with teachers developed better social skills as they approached the middle school years.

Questions 16 to 18 are based on the passage you have just heard.

16.How can learner-centered teaching practices help the students?

17. What will a child’s dependence toward his teacher in kindergarten lead to years later?

18. What resulted in behavior problems in middle school students?

Passage Two

Dogs and humans have been living side-by-side for about 15,000 years, so you might think we know each other pretty well. Here are some little-known facts about man’s best friend.

Humans and dog s aren’t so different after all, at least regarding what makes us sick. About 6 million dogs are diagnosed with cancer each year, and dogs get dog versions of rare human disorders, one of which leads to the inability to walk or control their muscles. While illness is sad for humans and pets alike, sharing diseases benefits both species. Clinical trials are easier to run on pets, like dogs, giving doctors an animal model of human disease, and find a chance for a cure.

Dogs are sensitive to human diseases. If you have a severe illness, your dog might be the first to know. Studies have shown that dogs can be trained to detect cancers of the lung, breast, and skin. Researchers suspect the dogs are picking up an extraordinarily faint smell given off by the abnormal cells.

Dogs are also being increasingly used as service animals for people with diabetes, whose health can be harmed when their blood sugar peaks or drops. Specially trained dogs can detect the scent of these

fluctuations and alert their owners before they even feel symptoms.

Most mysterious of all about dogs are scattered reports that dogs can predict a heart attack 45 minutes before it begins. No one knows why, but theories have it that dogs may know it either by an unknown smell or by observing subtle behavioral changes of the patient.

Questions 19 to 21 are based on the passage you have just heard.

19. Why are dogs helpful in curing human diseases?

20. What makes dogs sensitive to human diseases?

21. How can a dog help a heart attack patient?

Passage Three

Punctuality is a wonderful trait of a person, one to be admired and respected. Two years back when attending a workshop on business ethics, the instructor explained the meaning of punctuality and I would like to share his words of wisdom with you today. Punctuality displays a person’s respect for people and time. In a scheduled appointment, the late-comer usually gives an impression that he doesn’t value the other person’s time or considers his time more important than that of the other. This is exactly why candidates are never late at a job interview!

Punctuality is more important at the workplace because it is here that you get paid for the hours you put in. While it may be appropriate for you to be fashionably late for a social event, it won’t be appreciated by the business where time is considered to be money in today’s growing economy. Many people work from home these days, to them punctuality means being available online during office hours, logging in into meetings punctually, and meeting project deadlines.

While most of the companies all over the world do appreciate punctuality, others offer a more flexible working environment for their employees. In these companies, employees are assessed on their professional front like accomplishments and out of the box solutions, while punctuality takes a backseat. However, at the end of the day, punctuality does make a difference and if you want to earn and maintain the respect you wish to have at the workplace you cannot discard this wonderful human virtue.

Questions 22 to 25 are based on the passage you have just heard.

22. Why is being punctual of much importance to an individual?

23. How do people think of the late-comer at an appointment?

24. How can people working from home ensure their punctuality?

25. Why do some companies offer a flexible working environment for their employees?

Section C

Suppose your daughter wants the new Britney Spears CD, or perhaps you’re looking to make a nice Christmas music compilation for playing over the holidays. For many people it is as simple as 26. going online, selecting the tracks, and downloading them. What isn’t so simple about downloading music is the copyright protection laws that people break everyday by downloading some music tracks off the Internet. To make matters 27. even more serious, some music can be lawfully downloaded, and for those that aren’t,

laws regarding the sharing and downloading of music on the Internet 28. vary from country to country.

In Canada, for example, downloading copyright music from the Internet is legal, but uploading those files is not. 29. Additionally Canada has imposed fees on recording mediums like blank CDs and similar 30. items. These taxes are used to fund musicians and songwriters for 31. revenues lost due to consumer copying. Canada has initially charged this tax on MP3 players, but a recent Supreme Court decision 32. ruled that the law was written in such a way that these players were exempt (免除) from the tax.

The U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act is much stricter and 33. deems copying of copyrighted music as illegal, with the exception of making a copy for your own use. The U.S. Code protects copyright owners from the unauthorized reproduction, adaptation or 34. distribution of sound recordings, as well as certain 35. digital performances to the public. In more general terms, it is considered legal for you to purchase a music CD and record it to MP3 files for your own use.

Part IV Translation

In a traditional Chinese wedding ceremony, heaven and earth shall witness a couple’s marriage. The Chinese were mainly Taoists or ancestor worshipers before foreign religions such as Christianity, Muslim or Buddhism entered ancient China. Taoists believed in the power of heaven and earth to witness important events on earth. It was also believed that a parent or family elder must acknowledge a union for it to be official. An official at the wedding would direct the bride and groom to pray to heaven and earth first, then to the groom parents or family elders and lastly to bow to each other. The official would then declared the ceremony completed successfully and asked the wedding guests to escort the couple into the bridal chamber.

Being online is no longer something new or fresh in our life. To some extent, it has become part of our daily life. We can do a lot of things online, such as searching for information and communicating with friends far away. But recently another helpful online activity has become very "in". That is online education. Why could online education be so popular within such a short period of time? Among other reasons, the quick development of the Internet should be an essential one, which makes all our dreams of attending class in the distance possible. Another underlying reason is the quick development of both society and technology. Today, modern science and technology is developing with fantastic speed. To catch up with this development we all feel an urgent and strong desire to study. However, due to the great pace of modern society, many people are too busy to study

2016年12月英语六级作文范文:传统文化消失 题目要求: 1. 现在许多传统文化正慢慢消失 2. 传统文化消失的原因 3. 我的看法 参考范文: On the losing of Traditional Culture It is widely noted that lots of traditional culture is disappearing along with the development of technology. Many ancient architectures and traditional ways of living have been deserted. It seems that the traditional culture and craftsmanship will be replaced in this modern era. The following reasons can account for the above phenomenon. Firstly, traditional technologies are always considered ineffective while the new sciences are always highly efficient, because modern science and technology facilitate both our daily and academic life a lot, with which we can save much money and time. Secondly, it is costly to protect the traditional culture, especially the maintenance and repair of the historical buildings. In my opinion, although traditional culture is an ancient heritage, it couldn't keep pace with the development of society. It is the tide of history that the traditional culture and technology will no doubt be eliminated in the end.

2020年新东方大学英语六级写作背诵作文范文精选 21篇(二十) 20.Is Failure a Bad Thing? Failure is what often happens. It is everywhere in our life. Students may fail in exams, scientists may fail in their research work, and athletes may fail in competitions. Although failure happens to everyone, attitudes towards failure are various. Some people don't think their failure is a very important thing at all. So they pay no attention to it. As a result, they will have the same failure a period later. Some people think themselves are fools and lose their hearts in everything after they get a failure. Consequently, they spend their time and energy on useless things and they may really be fools as they have thought. Other people are quite different from the two kinds of people mentioned above. Instead of being distressed and lost, they draw a lesson from every failure and become more experienced. After hard work, they will be successful in the end. It is said that failure is the mother of success. Success will be gained after times of failures so long as we are good at drawing lesson from our failures. In my opinion, failure is not a bad thing, the really bad thing is taking a failure as failure or even lose our heart after failure.

新东方大学英语六级模拟题一(20151106)范文听力原文及答案

听力原文及答案 2015年11月大学英语六级考试模拟题 Part I Writing As the saying tells us, having a dream is very good for one’s life, and one has to take consistent effective actions to realize the dream. The dream in one’s heart could be very grand and wonderful; however, one must put concrete efforts into it. Dreaming empty dreams all day long may not get one anywhere. This saying is meant to tell us that it’s crucial for us to take persistent actions to make our dream come true. There’re numerous examples to illustrate the superiority of taking actions over having big dreams. One example in case is the life journey of Su Bingtian who is the first Asian athlete qualified for the 400 meter dash final in the World Youth Championship. He has been dreaming of the championship since he was a child. Nevertheless, what really makes him a great athlete is his effort through all these years. It’s his persistence in his daily training that makes him successful. His sweat earns him this great honor. Consequently, we should emphasize the actions we take in the course of achieving our goal or realizing our cherished dream. On one hand, we shouldn’t let our dream blind our eyes, and we should be aware of the way under our feet, putting our dream in our heart and take action. On the other hand, once we start our work, we should focus on it and make consistent effort until we get there. Part II Listening Comprehension Section A 1. But if we find ourselves in the presence of a person, or people, in a grumpy mood, it can feel like a dark cloud approaching to dim our radiance and block our positive way of seeing the world. We can remind ourselves that clouds pass, while the sun and stars continue to shine above. Then it’s easier to think of these “grumps”affectionately, knowing that they only have the power to affect our mood if we allow it. The Tortoise And The Hare The classic tale of the tortoise and the hare reminds us that different people take life at different speeds and that one way is not necessarily superior to another. In fact, in the story it is the slower animal that ends up arriving at the destination first. In the same way, some of us seem to move very quickly through the issues and obstacles we all face in our lives. Others need long periods of time to process their feelings and move into new states of awareness. For those of us who perceive ourselves as moving quickly, it can be painful and exasperating to deal with someone else's slower pace. Yet, just like the tortoise and the hare, we all arrive at the same destination, together, eventually.YouTheme People who take their time with things are probably in the minority in most of the world today.
