For most parents and other caregivers, summer is by far the best season to connect kids with nature. The weather’s nice, and the youngsters are out of

time. Here are a few tips to help you along the way:

Nature is all around us. 37 For small kids, there’s likely plenty in the backyard, courtyard, or schoolyard. National parks are great, but kids foster a deep connection with nature close to home!

38 Don’t worry too much about what to do once you arrive at your nature-rich destination. What kids really need is free time to engage all their senses and use their imaginations.

You can learn too. What counts is simply to get out there, show that you value the outdoors, and be ready to have fun. 39 In fact, it is not necessary for you to know anything at all about science or nature. And remember, questions are more powerful than answers anyway!

Sit back and watch your kids learn. Don’t be too much of a helicopter parent, always saying “no”. Instead, try to spare more time to stay with your kids when necessary.

40 And let kids take some risks. Most of us climbed trees, played with sticks, and got muddy as kids — and we lived to tell the story. The nature connection is a contact sport, and both kids and nature can take it!

No matter the weather or time of day you can have an adventure together with your kids. Alright, get those kids outside, into nature, making their own discoveries!

A. Allow your kids to be kids.

B. It’s okay not to have a plan.

C. Pay close attention to your kids.

D. Parents often take time off as well.

E. You don’t need to be an expert on nature.

F. You typicall y don’t have to go far to find nature.

G. Sometimes it is necessary to turn to experts for advice.

Mary had feared the day she would draw a blank during a presentation. Then one day during a 45-minute speech, it happened. 36 . To help herself get back on track, Mary asked the audience to look at the handout and tell her what topic was up next. At the end of her presentation, audience members gave her top marks for organization.

‘How is my speech going to help the audience?’37 . Every single step of the way, ask yourself, ‘What’s in it for them?’”

·38

He wants to ensure the screen, lightening and inputs all work properly. “In addition, make an extra plan before you present.”he said.

·Involve the audience

Success seems to find Maya Moore everywhere she goes. But life hasn’t been a bed of roses for Maya and her biggest supporter, her mother. 36 Maya discovered her love of basketball in 1997 at the age of 8. That was the year the WNBA (Women’s National Basketbal l Association) began holding games. The young girl watched WNBA star Cynthia Cooper play in Olympics.

37

Three years later her mother, Kathryn, was offered a better job in North Carolina. Kathryn decided to make the move from Missouri because North Carolina provided greater basketball opportunities. Sadly, in under two months the company downsized, and Kathryn lost her job. She remembers, “38 ” Maya says the difficulties brought them closer, and she praises her mom. “She’s more than a teammate. I know she’s going to be on my side.”

About a year later, mother and daughter moved to Georgia, where Maya continued to play basketball. In high school she had the opportunity to play basketball against some of the nation’s best players.39

Maya led her team to 125 victories and three state championships. During this time, she was named the national player of the year twice.

40 Maya and her mother approached the college decision like they did everything. With careful consideration, Maya chose the University of Connecticut.

A. It was a bad time.

B. It really a competitive skill.

C. The competition improved her skills.

D. You can’t succeed without too much payment.

E. The path to success required a lot of hard work.

F. Maya dreamed to compete in the Olympics one day.

G. Universities competed to invite her to join their teams.

Nowadays, more people lose their jobs and the prices of goods and services s t e a d i l y i n c r e a s e.

36 But where do I start? Everything I’m payin g for is necessity. There’s nothing I can cut down on.

But if you take a careful and objective look at your bills and all the “stuff” you’re paying for, you actually do not need a good majority of them. I’ve put together 5 tips that you can follow right now to reduce your costs.

1. Cut Back on Eating out.

Maybe you didn’t notice eating out is one of the things at your budget and you can save so much money just by reducing the number of times you eat out.

37 It’s so much cheaper preparing food at home and healthier too. This does not mean that you should never eat out. You can choose special days to eat out like birthdays or anniversaries.

2. Reduce Your Electricity Consumption

38 This will help reduce your electricity consumption. With CFLs (节能灯) you save so much on power. Also unplug appliances (家用电器) that you’re not using.

3. Cut Back on Magazine or Print Subscription (订阅费)

Magazines are great but sometimes they come with articles that you don’t really care about so you don’t bother re ading them. 39 Review your magazine or print subscriptions to determine which ones to unsubscribe from. You can also draw out a list of topics or categories you like reading about and search for free online alternatives where you can read about the topic of your choice.

4. Cancel Your Gym Membership or Go for a Pay-Per-Use Plan.

Exercise is important to stay healthy. In fact, you save more money when you stay physically fit than if you are in poor health. But there are more affordable ways to keep fit, if you exercise for health’s sake and no t as a body builder or something.

5. Exercise at home or jog around your neighborhood.

If you can’t work out without an exercise trainer, try searching for exercise routines on You Tube. If you want to use gym equipment, then you can convert y o u r g y m m e m b e r s h i p s t y l e t o p a y-p e r-u s e.

40 Of course, you don’t need to practice all of these at once, but if you are really willing to cut down on those costs, then one of these will surely come in handy.

A. Start by turning off the lights you’re not using.

B. They’re so simple but the results are impressive.

C. As an alternative, make more home-cooked meals.

D. It’s time for you to take action and do something about your bills.

E. That way you pay only when you come to the gym to use the equipment.

F. Invest in gym equipment to cut down recurrent costs of gym membership.

G These days most of the information or news is available on the Internet for free.

Everyday etiquette(礼仪)for attending the theater One of my earliest memories is in a theater. I was about four years old when I saw The Lion King musical and I thought it was the most magical thing ever.36 Because of this I became fully accustomed to theater etiquette. As students, we can practice these few things to behave properly and enjoy ourselves in the theater.

37

This one seems a bit obvious, but after personal experience attending a New York show where a pair of girls talked through an entire act, I’ve realized it’s not as apparent as I had once thought.38 I love “Defying Gravity” as much as the next person, but no one wants to hear me and thus miss the high notes as Elphaba hits them.

Arrive early to find your seat with ease.

39 Arrive at the theater about 30 minutes early to find your seat and use the bathroom before the show begins.

Respect the actors.

We want to show off how cultured we are for going to a live theater performance.40 However, what makes us even more cultured is taking photos before the show starts, and putting the phone away during the performance. As the show comes to an end and the actors take their final bows, show them how well they did with applause.

Now that you’re ready to practice some theater etiquette, tell us what show you will be attending next!

A.Limit noise during the performance.

B.The same rule applies to bathroom breaks, too.

C.As the saying goes: if you’re on time, you’re late.

D.And we also want to document every moment of our lives.

E.Also, avoid singing along to your favorite musical members.

F.It is polite to wait until a scene is over to talk about the show.

G.I grew up taking theater classes and performing in school plays.

2017年高考英语阅读专练(七选五) 1. Brain Transplants Research on the human brain has been attracting more and more scientists in recent years. 1 If we compare a human brain to a hard disc, what the scientists are doing is to make better use of the hard disc. The idea that a human brain could be transplanted may come from Frankenstein. In 1999, an experiment turned a bear into a dolphin. 2 They were made of the memory area in the dolphin’s brain containing information about swimming. They had a series of useful information, which was saved into a button-sized chip (芯片). Later the information was transplanted into the action memory area in the bear’s brain. 3 It proved to be a highly successful experiment and a bear was turned into a dolphin. Recently, another memory transplant was performed at the Motor Nerve Research Institute of the University of California. The experiment had an entire transplant of the memory area. 4 The transplant was performed from a dog named Genius to a dog named Idiot. Genius could follow up to 100 gestures and orders made by its master. It was a real genius in memorizing. However, Idiot had no contact with people since its birth. It became an animal with nothing in its brain, without any memory. 5 When the two dogs woke up, Idiot had grasped all the abilities Genius possessed; it was good at memorizing and sensible. It could follow every gesture and any command given by its master. But Genius gave no response to its master, and did not recognize him at all. A. The experiment was a complete success. B. It included actions, moods, logic, words, images, etc. C. Then it was released by means of electric power. D. Different images have different meanings in the memory area. E. Using the most advanced technology, detailed images were produced. F. Discoveries show that messages are carried by the central nervous system in the brain. G.
