Dear Mr. Smith,

I am seeking an opportunity to work with World Destiny as a Computer Systems Manager. My professional experience and my awareness of your high reputation and great achievements have led me to want to work for World Destiny.

Since 1998 I have focused on computer-system design and training. As Systems Administrator for Newport Museum for the past two years, I have directed accounting, capital campaign and publication production. We designed the system from scratch, developing all applications, policies, procedures, and training programs. I was well prepared for such a challenge by my previous positions as a Systems Support Specialist and Micro Computer Assistant for the imperial corporation of America.

Over the years, I have worked with Novell, using programs including dBase, Wordstar and Microsoft word. This familiarity with a variety of hardware and software has helped me to get up to speed on nearly any computer with a minimum training period.

Additional experience in other fields also adds my value to World Destiny. As a Market Research Coordinator for Cushman &Wakefild of California, I not only researched and maintained(维护) a comprehensive database of Silicon Valley, but also produced statistical and written reports that support Cushman &Wakefield’s reputation. Previously, I organized companywide annual sales meetings for Qualogy ,Inc.

Mr. Smith, while this experience more than qualifies me to join any number of successful companies,it is my personal goals that lead to my interest in being part of the World Destiny

team. I believe my computer, promotional and organizational skills, fueled by my beliefs, make World Destiny and me right for each other. Can we arrange an interview at your earliest convenience? I will call within the next week to arrange a meeting.

Sincerely,

Beth Henning

Common sense would tell us that physically active children may be more likely to become

active and healthy adults.

In the United States, elementary and middle schools are advised to give students two and a half hours of physical activity a week. That is what the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Heart Association recommend. They say high schools should provide about four hours of physical activity each week.

Yet many schools across the country have reduced their physical education programs. Just this week, a study reported that life expectancy has fallen or is no longer increasing in some parts of the United States. The situation is worst among poor people in the southern states, and especially women. Public health researchers say it is largely the result of increases in fatness, smoking and high blood pressure. They also blame differences in health services around the country.

In 2006, a study found that only four percent of primary schools provided daily physical education all year for all grades. This was true of eight percent of middle schools and two percent of high schools. The study also found that twenty-two percent of all schools did not require students to take any P.E.

Charlene Burgeson, a health expert says one problem for P.E. Teachers is that schools are under pressure to put more time into academic subjects. Also, parents may agree that children need exercise in school. Yet many parents today still have bad memories of being chosen last for teams because teachers favored the good athletes in class.

But experts say P.E. classes have changed. They say the goal has moved away from competition and toward personal performance, as a way to build a lifetime of activity. These days, teachers often lead activities like weight training and yoga.

Some parents like the idea of avoiding competitive sports in P.E. class. Yet others surely dislike that idea. In the end, schools may find themselves in a no-win situation.

A sea turtle named Herman, an octopus(章鱼) called Octavia, and a seal named Lidia all spent this summer at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington, D.C. But unlike the zoo’s other residents, they are not real animals. These creatures are actually huge sculptures and they’re made entirely out of plastic trash from the ocean.

These giant artworks, along with 14 others, are part of a traveling exhibit called “Wa s hed Ashore:Art to Save the Sea”. The Washed Ashore project, led by artist Angela Haseltine Pozz i, works to raise awareness about the problem of plastic pollution in Earth’s oceans.

More than 315 billion pounds of plastic litter the word’s oceans today. Most of the plastic is garbage from towns and cities, as well as trash that people leave on beaches. Rainwater, winds, and high tides bring the trash into the ocean or into rivers that lead to the ocean. Once it is under the waves, the plastic begins to break up into smaller and smaller pieces. It often collects in spots called garbage patches, which spread over large areas of the ocean.

Thousands of marine animals—including whales, sea turtles, and fish —die each year from eating or getting stuck in plastic bags and other items. Plastic pieces can also injure coral(珊瑚) and kill sea grass.

Washed Ashore and other organizations are working to stop that from happening. Since 2010, Washed Ashore volunteers have collected 38,000 pounds of plastic trash from more than 3,000 miles of beaches. They helped Pozzi create more than 60 sculptures of marine creatures

that were harmed by plastic pollution.

The artworks on display at the National Zoo include a 20-foot-long coral reef(礁), a 12-foot-long shark, and a 16-foot-long parrot fish. Each one is made from hundreds of peices of trash like water bottles and sunglasses.

“These sculptures are a powerful reminder of our personal role and global responsibility in preserving biodiversity on land and in the sea, ”says Dennis Kelly, director of the National Zoo.

A. To prove her talent in sculpture.

B. To attract most visitors to the zoo.

C. To care about the plastic pollution in seas.

D. To teach people the use of plastic.

13.What is stress in Para. 3 according to the text?

A. Why plastic is difficult to break up.

B. What problems plastic litter causes.

C. Where plastic pieces go at last

D. How garbage patches are formed.

Tips to Increase Your Productivity

Want to get more done in your day? Of course you do. 16 The good news is that everyone can increase the amount of tasks they accomplish in a day. Here are some tips to help you have a more productive day.

Make a plan for your day. Make sure you know how you want your day to go in advance, even before you start. 17 To work best, create the next day’s plan the night before so that every morning you spend time performing, not planning.

Break large tasks down into bits accomplished easily. Do you have a large project that’s just so big that you keep putting it off? Or maybe you’re just unsure of where to begin, so you put it off. 18 Therefore, you will feel a sense of accomplishment as you check the items of your list.

Always set your priorities(优先事项). 19 Figure out what must be done, do that first and rank the rest of your work according to importance. If you don’t get to the items at the end of your list, it won’t be a big problem, and you can do them another time.

20 If you are the most productive in the morning, that’s when you should hit it hard and do as much as you can. If you work better in the afternoon, take care of some things like emails in the morning and then accomplish the important projects in the afternoon. Keep on top of your work habits, and you’ll be more productive.

A.Reward yourself if you are productive.

B.This can provide you a road map for the day.

C.Be aware of when you are the most productive.

D.It’s tough to meet depressed people who are productive.

E.It’s important to accomplish the most important tasks first.

F.A good way is to break the project down into more manageable ones.

G.To stay competitive in any industry, you need to improve your productivity.

Dear friends,

I am honoured to have a chance to be with you today.

As is well-known to all, with a good knowledge of Chinese, you will get a better understanding of China, a 200-year-old multicultural country. Furthermore, learning Chinese is an up-to-date trend that you don’t want to miss. It is likely that you can make lots of Chinese friends as well.

As for thetips of learning Chinese, I would say that Rome wasn’t built in a day, so learning Chinese takes time. Please use what you learn in class whenever you can — the more you use Chinese, the better you will learn it. Besides, listening to tapes, watching films and reading stories in Chinese are of great help.

I hope you all will become fluent Chinese speakers in the near future. Thanks a lot!
