一、教材背景
1. 剑桥大学出版社（Cambridge University Press，简称CUP）隶属于英国剑桥大学，成立于1514年，是世界上历史最悠久的出版社。距今已有496年的历史。该出版社每年有2000多种印刷版和电子版出版物面世，是世界上最大的教育和学术出版社之一。
2. KB教材系列由剑桥大学出版社专门为全球5-12岁非英语国家少儿出版的一套零起点英语教材。特邀请国际英语教学专家卡罗琳?尼克松（Caroline Nixon）和迈克尔?汤姆林森（Michael Tomlinson）编写，两位作者均具有20多年的少儿英语教学理论与实践经验。
二、教材理念
KB突出强调的是content based（基于内容的教学），注重学生学习效果的检验，一定要达到学生学会的目的；和以学生为主体，教师则为引导和辅助的角色。

五、单元结构及课时划分
1. KB1 和 KB2，各包含12个主单元，3个复习单元。每4个主单元后有一个复习单元。每个主单元需要7个课时完成，每个复习单元需要5个课时完成。测试需要7个课时。至少需要106个课时完成。至少约需6.6个月完成。
2. KB3 和 KB4，各包含9个主单元，4个复习单元。每 2个主单元后有一个复习单元。每个主单元需要8个课时完成，每个复习单元需要5个课时完成。测试需要7个课时。至少需要99个课时完成。至少约需6.2个月完成。
